Mixed Media canvases...part 2! AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

These are my most recent canvases. This first one is one of my favourites. It's hard to read the saying so here's what it says:

If clouds were made of cotton candy, and grass blades licorice sweet and dandy,

we'd sleep beneath a sugar sky and dream sweet dreams, you and I.

This one is a self portrait (when my hair is straight)...

This was a product from an amazing class I took at The Pickle with Linda! I gave this to my mom for Christmas, her walls are full of wonderful art and I thought this would be perfect for her.

And just a little re-cap of my previous post from my 'girls' day with my daughter.

This one is my all time fav!

I also just want to take this time to wish all of my family, friends and the wonderful people I've met through my blog, a blessed, safe and happy New Year!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful evening ringing in 2012!

Mixed media canvases.....part 1...

So I'm trying to tie up some loose ends today...organizing my office, cleaning up my computer etc...I've been meaning to post my mixed media canvases for MONTHS and since its the last day of the year, now is as good a time as ever!

So waaaaay back in the spring I took an on-line course by Christy Tomlinson called The She Art Workshop! It was alot of fun and FULL of amazing inspiration and was nice because I could go at my own pace. The fun part about mixed media is you can use just about anything to create your masterpiece! Some supplies I have used for my canvases are: paint, ink, sprays, pastes, stensils, stamps, rub-ons, glitter, designer paper, rhinestones, gouache, bubble wrap, mesh, doilies, man oh man the list goes on and on...

Below are first three canvases I did:

I made this sweet little canvas for a friends 8th birthday. The size is 2x2 (roughly the size of a standard post-it note). I also left little inspirational messages around each side of the canvas and presented it on a little easel for display.

This was my 2nd canvas:

My first attempt:

I will be posting the rest in a bit. Just wanted to share the fun of mixed media art. ANYONE can do it, even my 4 year old daughter has a finished canvas sitting in her room!

Stay tuned for more!

A new challenge....aren't you curious?

Yay for the weekend, its finally here! To kick start my Saturday, I've joined in on the fun over at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps! There's a challenge goin' on and an appropriate one at that! MAKE A TAG!

I'm always making tags this time of year. The perfect tag always finishes off any gift! So make sure you play along for your chance to win some KKS rubber!

So, have I told you how much I'm in love with the new Kraftin' Kimmie Alice in Wonderland Stamps by Annie Rodrigue? Well, I do, and have had alot of fun creating funky cards and tags with them. I tried to get a bit creative this time and made a tag featuring 'Alice in Wonderland', and attached it to a cake pop that says 'EAT ME'.... Close up of the cake pop...

Wanna hear a funny story behind this little project? With all the cake-pop makin' goin on in my house lately, I knew when I saw the Alice in Wonderland stamp I was going to make a special one and decorate it with the infamous 'eat me' on it. So, after alot fussing an fiddling with icing and getting it just right, I placed it in the cake stand to let it 'set'. About an hour later, my 9 year old son came down stairs licking his lips, looking to me like he was eating what was left of a 'cake pop'. Knowing I only made the one, I very calmly asked him, 'whatcha eatin?'....to which he replied, 'that cake pop from upstairs'.....(now, picture me jumping off the couch in slow motion with that low, slowed-down voice yelling....NOOOOOOOOOOO!)...lol...When I asked him why he decided to eat it without asking he simply replied, 'it said Eat Me'! In retrospect I should have put a sign up saying 'don't eat me'...we all had a good laugh! So the one you see above is my second attempt which turned out better than the first one anyway!

Don't forget to check out the Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge Blog to see what the fabulous Krafty Girls have to show you today! Kimmie also has a special Christmas giveaway going on, click here to see all the details on how you could win even more krafty rubber!!!

A new release is coming...

Just a quick little reminder that a brand new release will be happening this Sunday at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps!!! Yep, and let me tell you, YOU WILL LOVE THEM! The sneek peeks will start this Thursday, I'll be joining in on the fun on Saturday and Sunday!

Until then, here's a little Christmas tag to get your Christmas mojo flowin! This was one of the make and takes from Krafty Girl Kerry at Krafty Day a few months back and I've just finally got around to colouring her up! FAB Design Kerry! Makes the PERFECT tag/accent for any Christmas gift.
I coloured EVA up with my copics and prismacolour pencils. I like the look of the coloured image on kraft cardstock, great effect! Luckily we haven't had to break out the shovels just yet! It will come soon enough and trust me I won't be looking as happy as Eva does! lol!

So don't forget to tag along on Thursday for the first day of sneek peeks over at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps Blog! There's always lots of fun and free rubber to be had!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for stopping by, have a great week!

Little big storm.....

I know I know Thanksgiving is long gone, but that doesn't mean I still can't share some cute adorable images from By LORi Designs!!! This cutie, "Little Big Storm", can be found here! Love the name! Since I've been without an office/slash craft room I've been doing alot of colouring. I've been experimenting with a new 'no line' technique (which I love) where you lighten the lines of your image so there are no 'harsh' black lines. It gives the image a real nice soft look, almost painted. I first saw this technique over at Make it Crafty, then my friend Melanie coloured an image using this techique and I was completely blown away that I had to try it! I have a bunch of images coloured up on white paper using this 'no-line' way of colouring. I'm just waiting to get all my craft stuff unpacked so I can make some cards with them. New carpet this Friday - YAY! I will be posting them before the new year. Anyway I tried it on some kraft paper with my copics and prismacolour pencils and this was the result:
It was a little trickier using kraft cardstock for some reason, but it still turned out cute. How can it not with those sweet images!?! My first picture really doesn't do it much justice, it almost gets lost in the cardstock. I'm gonna say it looks aged and 'vintagey' lol...it really looks better in real life! :)

Anyway, make sure to swing by and check out the sweet Lollipop Girls and see what fabulous inspiration they have to show you today!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
