A new journal page...gettin' messy without a plan...

So I usually have SOME sort of plan when I do an art journal page. I can picture it in my head, I get out my supplies and I go to work.  Not with this page.  I literally did this in about 15 minutes and it was SO-MUCH-FUN!  I totally just dove in without a plan, 'gasp' I know (not my usual way), grabbed anything I could use within arms reach and just rolled with it!

My random circles turned out to look like green olives but I love green olives so its a win win for me!

I love pushing myself outside my comfort zone, you should try it, you just might love the results!

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a great weekend!

You've got a friend in me canvas...

What does one do with a truck load of creative energy after returning home from CHA?  Make a canvas!  I made this piece shortly after I got home.  The amazing inspiration walking around there was so overwhelming (in a good way) I was bursting at the seams with ideas.  I had so much creativity buzzing around inside my head I just had to let it out and this was the result.

I took a blank canvas and a piece of patterned designer paper and adhered it to the entire surface using gel medium.  After it was good and dry, I took some alphabet 'thickers' and placed them on the canvas as a 'mask', making the saying "you've got a friend in me"...(gotta love Toy Story) - oh I removed some of the 'sticky back' by pressing the stickers on my pants so they wouldn't tear the paper off when I removed them.    I added some whipped spackle around the edges to give it some texture and 'grunge'.  Then I went to work with some heavy body acrylic paint in Pink mixed with a bit of white paint and water and covered the entire canvas being careful not to saturate around the alphabet stickers too much.  Once that was completely dry I carefully removed the alphabet stickers revealing the pretty flowered background.  Then to finish it off I added some shading and dimension to the letters using gelatos and pitt pens!

Here's a close up of how to use the pens and gelatos to add more dimension to your work!  They blend so nicely over dried paint!

Anyway, hope you enjoyed this little project, I know it found a good home!  Thanks Jo  ;)

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you have a great weekend!

Some Odd Girl...

Hello bloggers!  Well its another doozy of a day here, tons of snow & yucky roads.  I hope all my local peeps have safe travels if you have to, and for the ones that got to stay home, well I hope you made time to get a bit crafty!

Today I've got a card to share with you.  This cute little image is from Some Odd Girl Stamps.  Its an older image (Peace Kaylee) I got a few years ago and I couldn't find her in the shop so she must be retired.  But there a ton of other adorable digital images available along with clear stamps to choose from!

I need to give a little shout out to the 'Some Odd Girl's'!  I met them all at CHA last month.  They were one of the friendliest booths and such a great bunch!  AND I finally met an old friend 'LEAH'!  We used to be on a design team together a few years ago and she's also a fellow canuck{wootwoot} and a total sweetheart so it was awesome to connect with her!  Love ya girl ;)

Anyway, once I got home I looked in my little binder of images that have been patiently waiting to be put on a card and remembered I had coloured this one up last year.  I used some copics, a scrap of patterned paper, some random stitches and some of my ink sprays.  I'm entering this into the challenge over at SOGBlog, I hope this qualifies!  Spray-mist, tomAto-tomato...lol...

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Paint parties everywhere!!!...it always starts with 4 magic words...

So I've been meaning to post this first series of pictures since the Christmas break.  My daughter had a couple of friends over for a play date and I had to keep them away from the older boys who were working on a project, so, naturally, I used the four magic words:

  'WHO WANTS TO PAINT?"

After a few squeels, jumps, air kicks and twirls, they were in their aprons and ready to play!  They had a ton of fun experimenting with acrylic paints, stencils, sponges and glitter!  Because hey, glitter (that doesn't come off and mysteriously cling to every crevice in your face...haha) makes everything better, am I right?  I taught them some fun techniques, like how to apply paint using sponges and stencils, then also using baby wipes to remove some of the paint through a stencil (reductive stenciling), how to ground their paintings etc....I let them play and have fun and for the most part, you could literally hear-a-pin-drop it was so quiet!  It was a blast for me to watch their different creative processes!
Here are their gorgeous mini masterpieces:

OH, and I apologize to my little artists who waited to so long and who were so very excited to hear their little masterpieces would be on my blog.  One of them exclaimed, "wow, these are gonna be on the Complooter?"....well yes, here they are, on your Complooter!!!!  You girls rock!

Now onto paint party number two!!!

On Friday night a group of wonderful ladies aka (the soccer moms's) got together for a fun girls night out!  When I got the email asking the four magic words (in a round about sort of way...lol) I, naturally was IN! We attended an art class through a venture called PAINT CLUB.  You can check out the website HERE, We all did the same painting 'Here comes the Sun', and was cool to see how everyone's ended up a bit different.  I advise you to go even if you've never picked up a paint brush in your life!  No experience necessary!

It was a TOTAL scream even though we were missing a 'player' ;) and we had some great laughs after, comparing our suns, 'flowers' and 'turkey butts'...lol!  Can't wait for the next one!  Everyone needs a night out with good friends!  Thanks ladies!
