You Got this...mini canvas

Check out this fun little video on how I made a 3x5 canvas for a friend.

Using supplies from Faber Castell and Hazel and Ruby, I was able to create a cute little 3x5" motivational canvas:

Adhere some patterned paper to the canvas using a gel medium, let dry completely.

Apply stencil mask letters to create your saying, then paint over them with acrylic paint.  Once dry, carefully remove the stencil masks.

I added some depth and shading to the lettering using Faber Castell Artist Pitt pens.  They are India Ink pens and blend beautifully!

 Voila, finished product!

Just a little reminder that when the going gets tough always remember, 'You Got This".  Thanks for stopping by today!

Hi Everyone!  Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas yesterday!  I absolutely love Christmas, have since I was a kid.  I love everything about it!  As quickly as it came, its now over in our house as we move on to another birthday celebration around here.  Wishing my sweet little boxing day baby a happy birthday!  Here's a little art project I made for her, planning on using it on the outside of one her presents all wrapped up!  Just had to share, and as you can see I used a wide array of Design Memory Craft products.  I did video tape my process but I had a hard time figuring out how to edit it on my tablet so that will probably be another post to come...

Its also my turn to share over at the Design Memory Craft website today.  Take a look below!

I made this little wooden block painting, you can see the full post including a tutorial over on the

Owl love you forever...and a little tutorial...

Hello fellow crafty people!!!  I'm back today with a little tutorial on how to use a digital image in your mixed media art.  Today I'm using the adorable Owl-ive The Owl Digital Stamp from By Lori Designs.  Its 'Inspiration Tuesday over at the By Lori Designs Blog so make sure you pop over and check out the amazing projects the dt has to show you!

Ok, so lets get started!

I started by using a piece of Mixed Media Paper 6x8 (strong enough to hold lots of mediums, water etc...).  I printed off Owl-ive The Owl and adhered her to the paper using some Faber-Castell Gel Medium.  (Gel medium is very versatile as its great for extending the colour in paints, adhering collage pieces and adding texture and dimension to your work).

Once dry, I used some Dylusions Ink Spray and laid down some colour around the image.  I then used some heavy body Golden Acrylic Paint in (Pink) and painted the body of the owl.

I traced the eyelids and belly and paper pieced them with some patterned paper just to add some colour, depth and interest.  I also added some green and blue acrylic paint to the background, then went over it with some white gesso to lighten things up.  I cut out a tree branch from some co-ordinating patterned paper and lightly gesso'd over it as well.

I added some more texture to the background using some stencils and paint.  I found some rubber grip shelf liner and used it to add some texture to the body of the owl and branch with some white gesso.  Then I wrote the sentiment "Owl Love you Forever" with a black pen and then the fun part began!  I got out my stash of Pitt Pens and Gelatos and went to town adding some fun colours to the edges of the paper.  I also shaded around the owl and its features to make them really come to life.

I hope you like Owl-ive the Owl!  You can grab your own digital file of her HERE and make your very own mixed media painting!!!  Try it, you'll love it!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great week!

{Dream}, wish, believe.....

Hello folks!  Its been a while since I've postsed anything and now since things are starting to slowly wind down I've found a little pocket of time to get something up on here.  I started this little painting the beginning of last year and have just recently finished it.
It started with a piece of 7x7 chipboard and acrylic paints and gouache.  I then went in with my Faber Castell Pitt Pens to add some stems and dimension/shadows etc...I finished it off with some rub-ons and stamps!!!  So fun!

Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Let the fairy in you fly....another KKS challenge...

Welcome back to another fun challenge at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps!!!  Today I'm playing hostess and I challenge you to use flowers on your project.  I rarely use actual 'flower embellishments' on my cards or projects so this really was a challenge for me.  You can use any kind of flower, it can be on your designer paper, embellishments, incorporated in the stamp/sentiment etc...we just want to see those flowers!  Maybe it will nudge spring along because it sure is taking it's sweet little time around here!!!  Play along with us using a Kraftin' Kimmie Stamp and you could win some Krafty Rubber!!!

I created another mixed media tag for my project today...yep, I'm on the 'tag train' and not sure when I'm getting off!  lol...anyway, for my project I've used the newly released Tatiana and an older sentiment 'let the fairy in you fly'.  On the original stamp for Tatiana, she is holding a mirror but I wanted her to be holding some flowers so I just simply cut the mirror part off during the 'fussy cutting' stage.
Here is a close up of how I cut out the 'mirror' and added my own glittery flowers.  Her wings were paper pieced using some old book paper.  I added a bit of colour with my peerless watercolors.
And another close-up of the sentiment and the cabochon flower.

I also used lots and lots of  Glimmer Mist and Stardust Stickles which is hard to see in the first picture of the whole tag.  I added glitter to the edges of the 'torn' parts, the flowers, and some random dots scattered around.

Here is a list of some of the supplies I've used on my tag.  Tags (x2 Canvas Corp), old book paper, flower stencils, text stencils (The Crafters Workshop), peerless watercolors, glimmer mist, copic markers, stickles, gesso, faber castell pitt pens, flower embellishments, archival ink, mod podge.
Also there's a big Springtime Krafty Krop goin' on today at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps for even more fun and chances to win some prizes.  You can check out all the information HERE!  Thanks for stopping by today!

More mixed media goodness!!! Art Journal cover part 1...

Well I know its been a while since I've posted some mixed media art but its never too late right?  Now that I've unpacked ALL of my art supplies etc...I've been able to begin where I left off, playing with the endless amount art supplies that fill my craft room/office.  I've also frequented a few 'new to me' local crafty/art stores and have had a good dose of retail therapy.  Picked up a 'few' (ahem) supplies and I've been on my way!  I scooped up a new Art Journal at The Scrapping Bug and have been busy over the last few months 'playing'.

Anyway, today I'm showing you the work-in-progress cover of my art journal.  Since I don't really know exactly what I want to do with it I just dabble here and there.  I did know I wanted to use that totally awesome Suzi Blu stamp I got at The Art House Studio.  See the little painter/artist girl?  I loooove Suzi Blu and her funky fun style.  She's such an inspiration!

Here's a close up of the artist stamp.  I've added a smile to her face and some long flowing locks as well.  You can see what the original stamp looks like in the watermarked image below.  I've altered it a bit to suit my style.  She was coloured with a few copics and mostly my prismacolor pencils and gamsol.

For the wall, I used the mini brick stencil from The Crafters Workshop and went over it with some molding paste adding a few wood stars into it.  I went over the bricks with some pan pastels but not overly happy with that so still working on that area.

I'm planning on adding a quote or verse to the front, just haven't found 'the one' yet.  Here's a list of some other supplies I've used on the cover:  Faber Castell Pitt Pens, Golden Acrylic Paint, Washi Tape, Dylusions Ink Sprays, Stencils, bubble wrap and Pan Pastels.

Art journaling is a fabulous way to get lost from everyday stressors, be free and creative and to just play and have fun.  Try it, you'll like love it!  Oh and also a little 'shout out' to my new awesome crafty friends who may help me along with the inspiration ;) !!!

Fingerprint flowers and Butterfly thumbs...a new canvas!

I'm back with another fun little art project that you can do with your kids (or on your own as well).  Its been a little trend in our house lately that the days my daughter is home with me we do some kind of 'art' project.  I call it Homeschooling Art Class 101...lol!  There's so many fun things you can do with a little bit of paint, a blank canvas and a few tiny fingers and thumbs!  Here's what we came up with!

I've created a little step-by-step video tutorial to show you just how easy and FUN this is to do!  Both my daughter and I are very proud of it and think its pretty cool that the flowers and butterflies are made from our finger and thumb prints!  We have lots of homemade paintings with hand and foot prints from the kids but we've yet to do something like this!
Here's the video! I hope you like it!
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  Have a great week!

Mixed Media, little birdie with a big heart...

Here's my latest.  Mixed media on canvas.  My mom has been here since Friday and we decided to get messy and this is what I came up with.  Its totally not my usual style and definately not what I thought the end result would be but I went in with 'no plan' (which was hard because I always have a plan).  I just rolled with it.  My mom's is still a work-in-progress, its gorgeous and can't wait til its finished!

My fav lss The Paper Pickle has a ton of awesome art supplies from paint & stencils to rubons and brushes for mixed media art!  I've been collecting quite a stash and have to put them to use!  Here are the supplies I used:  Magenta Acrylic Paints, Claudine Helmuth Paints, Liquitex acrylic inks, Faber Castel India Inks, stayz-on ink pads, Kaiser Craft Rub-ons, Crafters Companion stencils, Basic Grey dp, doily, bubble wrap, punchinella, mesh, foam stamps, clear and rubber stamps, old book paper, music sheets, oh the list can go on and on....Just wanted to give you an idea on how you can create your own piece of art!  So much fun!!!!!

Mixed Media canvases...part 2! AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

These are my most recent canvases. This first one is one of my favourites. It's hard to read the saying so here's what it says:

If clouds were made of cotton candy, and grass blades licorice sweet and dandy,

we'd sleep beneath a sugar sky and dream sweet dreams, you and I.

This one is a self portrait (when my hair is straight)...

This was a product from an amazing class I took at The Pickle with Linda! I gave this to my mom for Christmas, her walls are full of wonderful art and I thought this would be perfect for her.

And just a little re-cap of my previous post from my 'girls' day with my daughter.

This one is my all time fav!

I also just want to take this time to wish all of my family, friends and the wonderful people I've met through my blog, a blessed, safe and happy New Year!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful evening ringing in 2012!
